What is Special About Our School?

Sacajawea Middle School is on the move.  Dedicated staff members, parents, and students are committed to the improvement of student achievement. The 2006-07 Master Schedule was revamped to increase the time students spend in their academic classes. All students follow a comprehensive educational program including Advisory, Physical Education, and electives. Students who need additional assistance in reading or math will be enrolled in a course designed to help them meet standards in these areas. Sacajawea offers Pre-AP classes in all grades, and we expect our students to be challenged in every class.

In the fall of 2007, Sacajawea and Lakota Middle Schools initiated the Cambridge Checkpoint Academy in grades 6, 7, and 8. The Cambridge Checkpoint Academy is a rigorous program that focuses on Math, Science, English, and Spanish. The requirement to enter “Checkpoint” program includes passing all parts of the WASL, maintaining B or better grades (meeting or exceeding standards), and satisfactory teacher recommendations.

Along with the school’s intense academic focus, students are strongly encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. We realize that students who participate in sports and clubs will strengthen pride in our school and add a considerable amount of spirit.

This year, Sacajawea became the second middle school in Federal Way to implement a required uniform policy for students.

In 2005 Sacajawea had the most significant gains in the district in Reading and Math WASL test scores, scoring highest in the district, Sac was one of a handful of schools in the state exiting AYP, thanks to the incredible strength of our teaching staff.

No Child Left Behind Report Card

The No Child Left Behind Act requires all schools and school districts in the United States to prepare annual reports for parents and the public detailing their academic achievement.
