Green Gables Elementary

School Information

What is Special About Our School?

Open for the first time in September 1993, Green Gables is located just north of the King/Pierce County line in the southwest region of the Federal Way School District. Our school contains three Kindergarten classrooms (two all-day and one half-day/morning), six 1st-2nd grade multiage primary classrooms, and eight 3rd-5th grade multiage intermediate classrooms. Our multiage primary and intermediate classroom configurations allow students to stay with their teachers for multiple years. We give and expect respect, love, happiness, and high standards from all who work and learn here. We are focused on brain researched teaching practices, and our teachers are experts at providing meaningful work experiences that keep students engaged and excited to learn. The school also houses a before and after school daycare program open 6:30-9:15 a.m. and 3:50-6:30 p.m.

Our special education students, English language learners, and gifted students are mainstreamed into our multiage classrooms.  Students and teachers use developmental continuums and assessments to determine individualized academic plans for each student.  Through readers’ and writers’ workshops, as well as Everyday Mathematics, students are instructed at their appropriate levels.

In support of our mission and philosophy, our learning plan focuses on; 1) Helping every child below in reading by one year or more to make 1.5 year’s gain in one year’s time; 2) Assessing students’ developmental levels in reading and writing and teaching them on the basis of these assessments; 3) Ensuring that students have meaningful work that is driven by their choices, in content that is right for their level.

Parental involvement and volunteer opportunities available include student tutoring, PTA activities, instruction of special skill workshops, and office assistance. Membership on School Leadership Teams and leadership opportunities are also available.  Additional information can be obtained by calling Tod Wood at (253) 945-2700.

No Child Left Behind Report Card

The No Child Left Behind Act requires all schools and school districts in the United States to prepare annual reports for parents and the public detailing their academic achievement. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction’s web site makes this information available on-line. Find your school’s report card on-line at http://reportcard.ospi.k12.wa.us/. Click on Federal Way in the “Summary” box, and then choose your school from the list. You may also request a paper copy of the report card at your school’s office.
