Todd Beamer Added to Washington Post’s High School Challenge List

Todd Beamer High School was recently added to the 2011 Washington Post’s High School Challenge list, after the results for that school were recalculated. Federal Way, Decatur, and Thomas Jefferson high schools are also named in the list. Now all four of Federal Way’s large high schools are included on the list.

Previously known as Newsweek’s annual list of America’s Best High Schools, The High School Challenge is based on the same criteria as the Newsweek list. The list ranks schools by the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or other college-level tests the school gave in 2010, divided by the number of graduating seniors.

This year, some 1,900 high schools nationwide and 40 schools in Washington State made the Washington Post list. Among Washington state schools, Federal Way High School (FWHS) came in at number 12, Decatur was 14th, Thomas Jefferson was 16th and Todd Beamer was 38th. This is Todd Beamer and Decatur’s first year on the list, FWHS’ second year and Thomas Jefferson’s third.
