Comprehensive Learning Assessment System/Educationally Related Research - 2080
The Board believes it is important to assess student learning in order to continuously improve results for students. To further this purpose, information gathered through the district’s comprehensive assessment system will be used to measure student learning essential to achievement of elementary grade level expectations and secondary course expectations; provide performance feedback to students, staff, and parents; inform effective instruction for all students; evaluate school performance; improve curriculum; and screen for handicapping and/or talented conditions.
The district will utilize a variety of assessment procedures and measures to assess student performance including norm-referenced and criterion-referenced tests as well as district-level and classroom-based performance assessments. The district believes that a variety of measures will give the most accurate picture of student performance.
Parents will be given results of all state and district-level tests. Classroom assessment results will be reflected on the student report card. (See policy/procedures 2421, Student Promotion.)
Written parent permission is necessary before administering an individual intelligence test or a diagnostic personality test. Tests and questionnaires may not elicit student beliefs about sex or religion without prior written consent of parent/guardian.
Parents/guardians and other community members who wish to examine any test materials may do so by contacting the superintendent/ designee.
All proposals for educationally related research in the Federal Way School District are to be submitted in writing to the superintendent/designee.
