Preparing for an Emergency

How will I know if Federal Way Public Schools are closed or open, or if transportation is running as usual?

In any emergency situation, including severe weather conditions, staff will make every effort to contact parents at the phone numbers you provide on your child’s yellow emergency card. Please make sure that those numbers are up-to-date and that we have the names and phone numbers of other people you might ask to pick up your child. In addition, the district will put out closure and other schedule changes through:

  • Local news media, especially radio and television
  • The main district number at 253-945-2000 (a recorded message)
  • This web site
  • Your school’s web site

Please do not contact the school directly. An overload of phone calls could tie up phone lines needed for communications between the school and emergency personnel.

We also ask that you do not come to the school until public emergency officials have lifted the red alert status and given an all-clear.
