How a student exits from the ELL Program

To be exited from the ELL Program, students must meet certain exit criteria based on standardized test scores. Tests used are the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) and the Washington Language Proficiency Test (WLPT). Both tests are given annually in the spring.

Currently the WASL is given at grades 4, 7, and 10. Students need to meet standard (400) in reading and 9 at grades 4 & 7 and 17 at grade 10 in writing.

The WLPT is administered to all active ELL students in grades kindergarten through twelve. The test is divided into grade-level spans: K – 2, 3 – 5, 6 – 8, and 9 – 12. Students meet exit criteria by attaining a level 4 in reading and a level 3 in writing.

ELL students are also evaluated on Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives.
