Teachers
FWPS requires all ELL teachers to have a special endorsement that qualifies them to teach English Language Learners. They receive summer and monthly training to make sure that they learn about the latest research and instructional strategies. Read more »

Family Involvement
ELL families are encouraged to be involved in their child's education. Research shows that academic achievement improves significantly when parents are involved in school and at home. Read more »
Elementary ELL Program
ELL English language instruction is provided during the reading or intervention block for 20-30 minutes each day. Children in grades K-5 receive research-based instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in small groups or with a tutor. Read more »
Secondary ELL Program
Most ELL English language instruction in grades 6-12 is provided in self-contained or sheltered classes. A few secondary schools have responsive intervention models where the ELL teacher collaborates with content teachers to provide support. Read more »

State Transitional Bilingual Instructional Program
STBIP is committed to addressing the unique needs of students from linguistically and culturally diverse backgrounds and to help them achieve the high content and performance standards expected of all students in Washington State. Read more »
ELL/Special Education Students
In cases where it is clearly demonstrable that a child's special education condition is a minority barrier to the child attaining English proficiency, the child can be served by both the SPED and ELL programs. Read more »
