Automated Messaging System
Keeping the Lines of Communications Open
Federal Way Public Schools use an automated messaging system to communicate quickly, accurately and efficiently with the parents of our 21,000+ students and the over 2,500 staff members that make up our school district.
Messages to parents may be about upcoming events such as statewide testing, school activities, and information regarding their students’ attendance or grades. Messages are also sent to parents and staff in urgent or emergency situations.
In a non-emergency situation, the system will call only the number you designate as the primary contact number — for many people, that will be the home number, but it can be any number you choose.
School conferences, upcoming holiday schedules and other routine information will go to that number, and a message will be left if you don’t answer the call.
Keeping Parents Informed in Emergencies is our Highest Priority
Our automated messaging system is capable of sending 3.2 million messages an hour.
This means that we can reach parents or staff quickly in urgent or emergency situations. But we need your help to make sure the system works the way it’s supposed to, by providing complete and up-to-date contact information.
Beginning in 2010, the district has added text messaging and e-mail alerts to its capabilities, for parents who choose to receive them. In fact, you can provide a primary number as well as work and cell phone numbers, text message number, and e-mail address for up to four parents or guardians.
In the event of an emergency situation — such as a lockdown at your child’s school or last minute school cancellation because of snow — we can call every number you provide, and send a text message and an e-mail, in an effort to make sure you get the message as soon as possible.

Please contact your child’s school’s office. A phone call or handwritten note are both fine.
Finally, some parents prefer to get only emergency notifications via our Call-Out system. If you wish to select this option, please download the Opt-Out Form in the sidebar of this page, complete it and return to your child’s school.
Please note -- because state law requires we notify parents/guardians if your student is not in school, we cannot exclude you from attendance phone messages.
