Fifth Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for fifth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.
Social Studies Expectations - United States
History
- 1.1 Understands the U.S. has changed over time (through the study of exploration, colonization, independence, westward movement, civil war, immigration, industrialization, and emergence as a world leader).
- 1.2 Comprehends that current and past events influence our daily lives and can be interpreted more way than one.
- 1.3 Recognizes the development of technology has revolutionized the way people live, work, and think.
Geography
- 2.1 Uses map and globe skills.
- 2.2 Identifies the regions and states of the U.S.
- 2.3 Recognizes how their physical environments influences the developments of individual states.
- 2.4 Identifies and investigates cultures within the U.S.
Civics
- 3.1 Understands the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights are the basis for our democratic form of government.
- 3.2 Knows the structure of the U.S. Government is made up of three parts that check and balance each other.
- 3.3 Understands that the democratic process can bring about change.
- 3.4 Helps others through school/community service.
Economics
- 4.1 Investigates how occupational choices are influenced by the needs and desires of society.
- 4.2 Understands that our economy has changed from an agricultural base to an industrial and technological base.
- 4.3 Identifies services provided through local, state, and federal taxes.
- 4.4 Examines the interdependence of the states.
