Fifth Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for fifth grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Physical Education Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: movement, physical fitness, and nutrition.

  • 1.1 Begins to use a variety of locomotor skills in combination during activities or modified games
  • 1.2 Demonstrates mastery in one non-locomotor skill in modified games and maintains proficiency in others
  • 1.3 Assists other students in applying class rules and safety procedures in a variety of games or fitness activities
  • 1.4 Demonstrates sportspersonship and cooperation in a variety of small group activities or modified game situations
  • 1.5 Evaluates own performance based on results of FITNESSGRAM Test and identifies areas in need of improvement using appropriate vocabulary
  • 1.6 Records the amount of moderate to vigorous physical activity outside of class, categorizes them into the four areas of Health Related Fitness and relates them back to his/her personal fitness goals
  • 1.7 Records personal diet based on Food Guide Pyramid categories
  • 1.8 Names several benefits associated with regular activity and proper nutrition throughout life

2. The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop health and fitness plans based on life goals.

  • 2.1 Describes the relationship between (1) a sedentary lifestyle and a variety of health problems; and (2) the positive benefits of an active lifestyle
  • 2.2 Identifies the relationship between career activity levels and individual fitness needs
  • 2.3 Develops and monitors a fitness plan for regular participation in physical activities based on personal fitness goals
