Third Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for third grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.
Social Studies
The student understands and uses the scientific concepts and principles related to the topics of:
History
- 1.1 Understands communities develop and change over time
- 1.2 Recognizes that decisions made today are shaped by past events
- 1.3 Recognizes technology has provided different ways of meeting human needs
Geography
- 2.4 Understands basic map skills
- 2.5 Identifies oceans, continents, and various land forms
- 2.6 Recognizes how the physical environment influences the development of communities
Civics
- 3.1 Recognizes that members of a community have individual responsibilities
- 3.2 Understands the role of community government
- 3.3 Understands that voting is a way to make group decisions
- 3.4 Recognizes ways to help in the community
Economics
- 4.1 Understands that the needs of a community are met over time
- 4.2 Identifies people working together to provide goods and services
- 4.3 Describes the interdependence between the community needs and worldwide concerns
