Third Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for third grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain an active life: movement, physical fitness, and nutrition.
- 1.1 Uses a variety of locomotor skills in combination, in small group activities or modified games
- 1.2 Begins to use a variety of non-locomotor skills in small group activities or modified games
- 1.3 Applies class rules and safety procedures in a variety of games or fitness activities
- 1.4 Works with a partner or small groups in a variety of games or fitness activities
- 1.5 Begins to evaluate their performance based on results of FITNESSGRAM Test using appropriate vocabulary
- 1.6 Describes how total fitness is comprised of the four areas of Health Related Fitness
- 1.7 Begins to associate several foods with categories on the Food guide Pyramid
- 1.8 Understands the benefits of activity, fitness, and proper nutrition
2. The student effectively analyzes health and safety information to develop health and fitness plans based on life goals.
- 2.1 Compares and contrasts the benefits of a regularly active vs. sedentary lifestyle
- 2.2 Identifies certain fitness needs related to several careers
- 2.3 Monitors his or her regular participation in a variety of physical activities outside of class
