Third Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for third grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations. Promotion will be based on the mastery of the reading expectations.
Music Expectations
1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to music.
- 1.1 Performs the following musical skills: reads and writes rhythms in twos and threes using notations; sings a pentatonic scale, and identifies steps and skips; identifies verse and chorus; and performs expressive marking in music.
- 1.2 Uses the creative process and acquired skills to compose showing knowledge of AB and ABA forms.
2. The student applies the creative process with music knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.
- 2.1 Uses musical knowledge and vocabulary to describe and analyze the effectiveness of musical works.
- 2.2 Practices presentation and evaluation skills by participating in small and large-group creative activities.
3. The student uses music to communicate ideas and feelings.
- 3.1 Responds creatively to feelings or concepts communicated in music using voices, instruments, or movement.
4. The student understands how music connects to other subject areas, life, and work.
- 4.1 Sings partner songs about life, work, and other cultures for fun and enjoyment.
