Second Grade Learning Expectations
The learning expectations listed below are for second grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.
Communication Expectations
1. The student uses listening and observational skills to gain understanding.
- 1. Pays attention while others are talking
- 2. Demonstrates listening strategies for following instructions
- 3. Asks questions to clarify content and meaning
2. The student communicates ideas clearly and effectively
- 1. Projects voice well
- 2. Communicates to teacher and small group
- 3. Begins to use good posture and eye contact
- 4. Uses media to enhance an oral presentation
3. The student uses communication strategies and skills to work effectively with others.
- 1. Demonstrates conversation skills
- 2. Contributes to a group with ideas and effort
- 3. Identifies and shares ideas
4. The student analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of formal and informal communication.
- 1. Uses established criteria to evaluate one's presentation
- 2. Offers feedback, with guidance, on other's presentations
- 3. Begins to identify forms of communication
