First Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for first grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Visual Art Expectations

1. The student acquires the knowledge and skills necessary to create, to perform, and to respond effectively to the visual arts.

  • 1.1 Understands and applies the concepts and vocabulary of line, color, shape/form
  • 1.2 Explores with creating, presenting visual artwork

2. The student applies the creative process with arts knowledge and skills to reason and solve problems.

  • 2.1 Begins to explore using the senses to recognize image, action, and movement in visual art
  • 2.2 Begins to explore works of visual art by others for ideas

3. The student uses visual art to communicate ideas and feelings.

  • 3.1 Explores using imagination and creativity to express ideas or understanding in visual art
  • 3.2 Uses visual art to communicate an idea

4. The student understands how visual art connects to other subject areas, life, and work.

  • 4.1 Begins to explore using visual art as an integral part of a classroom presentation or a report
