Second Grade Learning Expectations

Essential Learning 1: The student writes clearly and effectively.

Writing Skill 1.1: Writes a simple paragraph.

Definition of Writing Skill:

The students writes a four-sentence paragraph with a topic and three supporting sentences.

Strategies:

  • The teacher gives students a list of topic sentences from which students select one and write three supporting sentences.
  • The teachers gives students a paragraph and asks them to underline the topic sentence with a red crayon or pen and the supporting sentences with a blue crayon or pen.
  • The students work in groups to make sure their paragraphs have topic and supporting sentences.
