First Grade Learning Expectations

The learning expectations listed below are for first grade. Students will be assessed based on their progress toward meeting these grade-level expectations.

Social Studies: Expectations Myself and Families

History

  • 1.1 Understands individuals and families change over time
  • 1.2 Comprehends that traditions have historical origins
  • 1.3 Recognizes time can be measured in hours, days, weeks, months, years and seasons

Geography

  • 2.1 Understands the physical geography of the neighborhood
  • 2.2 Recognizes similarities and differences in neighborhoods and communities

Civics

  • 3.1 Recognizes that families and schools have rules, rights and responsibilities
  • 3.2 Learns the importance of patriotic holidays and celebrations

Economics

  • 4.1 Identifies the basic needs of families and neighborhoods
  • 4.2 Identifies neighborhoods have different jobs
  • 4.3 Understands people in a neighborhood are interdependent
  • 4.4 Recognizes families make choices concerning spending, earning, and saving money
