Grade 4
My writing will be very good if I:
Have a good concept and design. In other words, I
- have an opening that clearly states the topic or purpose
- use specific details to support my ideas
- use transition words to connect ideas
- organize my writing with a beginning, middle, and end
- use paragraphs
- have a closing that states my topic in a different way
- clearly address the writing task and form
Have an interesting style. In other words, I
- include active verbs, vivid adjectives, and figurative language
- change my sentence beginnings and avoid overusing words
- write to catch and hold the audience's attention
Follow conventions in writing. In other words, I
- spell words correctly
- have correct subject-verb agreement
- write complete sentences
- use correct capitalization and punctuation
- indicate paragraphs
